The fact is this: Auckland is one of the most unaffordable cities in the world to buy a house. Sometimes you just have to rip the bandaid off and say it.
More often than not financial sacrifices are made along the way such as delaying that trip of a lifetime to Europe to pay down the mortgage instead! Sometimes it’s nice to remind ourselves why we choose to live where we do. Here are 6 reasons why owning that Auckland house is so worth it (we’re only a little smug about it...!)
Welcoming and safe
A large city like Auckland can’t often claim being known for its friendliness, hospitality and generosity. Home to around 1.6 million people, the biggest city in New Zealand is one of those rare gems that IS considered welcoming and safe. Auckland, along with the rest of New Zealand, is nuclear free, values human rights and has strategies in place for a cleaner and greener country. In 2015, Auckland was ranked in the Top Ten as one of the friendliest cities in the world, and we're proud to keep it that way.
International - diverse and multicultural
Auckland has been named the fourth most diverse city in the world, with more than 200 ethnic communities residing here. With such a large mix of cultures, it’s so easy to find new experiences and connect with people from all different walks of life. Along with appreciating and revelling in new cultures in your own backyard, the Auckland International Airport is New Zealand’s link to the rest of the world, where so much more is just a flight away.
City AND nature
Though Auckland’s city centre is energetic and exciting, and so easy to find something to do in, there is incredible natural beauty to be found all around it. Where there is food, wine and never-ending shopping opportunities, there is even more in our outdoor playground. Explore the beautiful urban and regional parks, surf and swim on the wide black or white sand beaches, sail or kayak in the two sparkling harbours, there are nearly 50 volcanoes to climb, and head to the luscious forests to hike or bike through. Or, if you’re feeling brave, go for a bungee off of the Sky Tower or the Harbour Bridge. There are countless adventure activities for you to delve in, make the most of the exquisite nature Auckland has to offer.
Auckland is a suitable home for everyone, but none more so than for those wanting to raise a family. There are over 400 schools and more than 1200 early childhood centres, cementing Auckland’s world-class education status. Auckland is community orientated, safe and stable. It’s a multicultural city where a great lifestyle is the focus of many, the excellent healthcare system is an added bonus.
World class events
Auckland has so much to offer - it’s just that simple. With almost unlimited shopping, art and culture experiences, it’s hard to find yourself bored in a city like this. World-class food, wine and coffee are easily accessible and seem to just get better and better. If you get tired of your usual go-to activities, try something new - Auckland always has something on. The events are just about endless - from various music and food and wine festivals, to free to attend events like the Diwali and Lantern festivals. Don’t forget about taking part in Round the Bays, the Colour Run and the Auckland Marathon. Attend superb showcases of talent at the Film, Writers, Art, Fashion and Comedy Festivals. The options are literally endless, and there’s something new every year!
Now that summer has began let’s not forget what’s nearby! Auckland is close to multiple towns that offer themselves up as perfect day trip locations. Hop on a ferry and go to Waiheke for a day of wine tasting or head up Rangitoto for some incredible 360 views of Auckland and its surrounding islands. Drive north to Puhoi or Matakana, west to Muriwai or Bethells beach, south to the Waitomo Caves or east to the beautiful Coromandel. There are so many places to visit from the City of Sails, why not make a weekend out of it?
Thinking of a move...?
Auckland truly is the city of dreams and a beautiful place to live. For many not only is your house your greatest financial asset but the region you live in is your greatest lifestyle asset. Wherever you may live in New Zealand think about all the positive reasons you have chosen that place to call home.
We wish you all a safe & lovely Christmas and 2019 new year celebration with friends and family.
And if you're thinking of a move to Auckland, why not get to know a local and have a coffee on me? I'm always happy to give advice about where and how to buy that home you are dreaming of.
